Tomáš Rosický, the Arsenal midfielder and Czech captain, joined the squad at a training camp in Austria after a last minute check up on a calf muscle strain that caused worries about his participation in the European Championships.

Czech general strike delayed as unions seek signs of concessions

A threatened general strike aimed at upping pressure on the Czech government to drop pension reforms and public spending cuts will not take place before the summer holidays but is still on the cards unless there are signs of concessions say the Czech Republic’s biggest grouping of trades unions.

Corruption-charged Czech politician appears before peers over immunity

David Rath, the former Social Democrat health minister and governor of Central Bohemia accused of taking a Kč 7 million bribe in a far reaching corruption scandal, has appeared before a parliamentary committee which is expected to recommend his immunity is lifted for further criminal proceedings.

Czech explosives collector dies in blast

A Czech collector of explosive memorabilia, mostly from WWII, died in an explosion after he apparently tried to dismantle once of his devices. Neighbors were evacuated and one house will be checked for structural soundness after what was at first thought to be a gas explosion.

EU-Canada trade deal in jeopardy if visa problem not solved, Czech PM says

Czech Prime Minister Petr Nečas has warned his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper that obstacles to a pending Canada-EU economic and trade deal are on the cards from Prague if Ottawa doesn’t life its visa requirement on Czechs visiting the country.

Drugs test robbed Petr Čech of some of Chelsea's Champions League joy

Czech footballer Petr Čech, for many the man of the match after Chelsea’s penalty shoot-out Champions League win against Bayern Munich, missed some of the early celebrations of what he describes as the greatest moment of his career as he was called for a drugs test with the more than two hours of tension taking their toll.

Čech signals old friend Robben as dangerman for Champions League final

Arjen Robben showed his typical hard headed determination on the tennis court against Chelsea ‘keeper Petr Čech when they were both players and friends at the London club. On opposite sides now, Čech says Robben is one of Bayern Munich’s main threats for the Champions League final and is hoping for a different outcome from their tennis matches.
