Opposition pledges to keep up pressure on Czech gov't following confidence vote

PM Petr Nečas’ fragile three-party coalition comfortably survived a no-confidence vote called on Tuesday by the Social Democrats (ČSSD). Each side declared victory after the event — which carried on late into the evening — with ČSSD leader Bohuslav Sobotka promising to keep up the pressure on a government, which still has to decide further unpopular deficit cutting steps.

Czech gov’t faces no-confidence vote amid unrest

A no-confidence motion by the biggest opposition party, the Social Democrats (ČSSD), looks unlikely to unseat the government Tuesday but the center-right coalition of PM Petr Nečas is looking vulnerable if a guilty verdict is returned in an ongoing trial of Public Affairs de-facto leader Vít Bárta.
