Czech police have charged six Nigerians with human trafficking and forgery offenses after breaking up a gang which brought at least 25 young girls into the country and forced them to work at prostitutes. The gang, headed by a woman, is said to have used violence and the threat of black magic to keep the girls obedient and deter them from seeking help.
Four Nigerian men, a Nigerian woman, and six Czechs were arrested at the end of June on suspicion of arranging bogus marriages to secure residency rights, the Czech Police unit for combating organized crime has announced. Eight of those arrested remain in custody and three have been released on bail. If found guilty, the suspects could face between two and 10 years in prison.
