With Dohnal done for, who will reign supreme at the Czech audit office?

A Prague court this week upheld a suspended prison sentence on Supreme Audit Office (NKÚ) head František Dohnal for refusing MPs access to its books, and now he’s out. Politicians — despite public denials — long ago began working to ensure their favorites get on the short list of candidates to replace him; sources tell Czech Position they inlcude the PM’s chief advisor Martin Říman and MP Zdeňka Horníková (both ODS) and Miroslav Vaněk of the ÚZSVM.

Top Czech ice hockey clubs seek relegation protection

Czech ice hockey is the scene of an ugly war of words following moves by clubs in the elite Extraliga to push for no teams to be relegated from the top league. The idea is said to enjoy strong support from the clubs, which fear the economic consequences of ejection. The Czech national coach has already hit out at the proposal and lower league participants could also block a move if it came before the national association.
