WikiLeaks’ ‘Spy Files’ point finger at Czech firm Phonexia

Do you use an iPhone, BlackBerry or Gmail? “Well, you’re all screwed,” WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said this week, unveiling the whistleblower’s new ‘Spy Files’ project, which purports to expose how the private sector is making a fortune in global surveillance by developing high-tech gadgets allowing governments to track their citizens’ private communications. The Czech firm Phonexia is among the “collaborators.”

PirateLeaks to expose Czech political party sponsor rolls

The Czech branch of WikiLeaks on Monday (Feb. 21) will make public lists of sponsors of political parties that currently can only legally be inspected in person at the Chamber of Deputies. “The law requires these data be public precisely in order to make political parties’ sponsors clearly identifiable,” PirateLeaks project coordinator Jakub Michálek told Czech Position, justifying the move.

PirateLeaks.cz set to expose shady Prague City Hall deals

PirateLeaks is set to make public new documents exposing potentially compromising information about Prague City Hall deals, Jakub Michálek, the local coordinator of the WikiLeaks project tells Czech Position. “We are now processing materials from Prague City Hall,” Michálek said. “The materials we have received are closely linked to previous scandals, such as Opencard.”

PirateLeaks.cz on-line despite initial blockage

Slightly behind schedule at 3:15 pm the “Czech Assange” Jakub Michálek officially launched the Czech equivalent of WikiLeaks with the words “Close the gap!” The site’s launch ceremony was attended by journalists from most national media outlets.

Poll: Czech managers not impressed with WikiLeaks

A Czech Position poll of nearly 150 top managers found that most did not approve of the actions of WikiLeaks, the whistle-blowing website. Some people support the site to a point, but become concerned that it goes too far and can endanger national security or people’s lives. Others feel that government and corporate lies need to be exposed at any cost.

A member of the Czech Pirate Party (ČPS) tells Czech Position that the group will create its own whistle-blowing site — perhaps under the name ‘PirateLeaks’ — to avoid vetting and delays by WikiLeaks in releasing top secret documents of Czech interest.
