Archbishop Duka asks mayor to withdraw support for Prague Pride

Prague Archbiship Dominik Duka wrote to the city’s mayor, Bohuslav Sobotka (Civic Democrats, ODS), asking him to withdraw his auspices for the Festival of Tolerance or Prague Pride 2011 event, claiming the aim of the gay and lesbian festival isn’t to promote the  rights of a minority group but to promote an “undignified” and “loose” sexual lifestyle.

Czech president’s secretary brews up ‘gay beer’

President Václav Klaus’ secretary and political office director Ladislav Jakl — inspired by the hype around Prague’s first gay and lesbian pride festival — has reportedly brewed up a batch of a new Czech “gay beer” with fellow members of a beer-tasting club.

War of words over Prague’s first gay & lesbian pride festival escalates

Ladislav Bátora, the Czech Education Ministry head of human resources whose appointment sparked outrage among human rights activists due to his ties to a far-right party, has co-authored a letter to US Ambassador Norman Eisen condemning the American embassy’s support for Prague Pride, the capital’s upcoming first gay and lesbian festival and parade. It was the latest salvo in the escalating war of words over the event, which President Václav Klaus has called a worrying show of “homosexualism.”
