The five-day New York International Gift Fair kicked off on Aug. 14 with a selection of Czech glass on display that is as unique in its appearance as the story of the company that produces it. Artěl Glass is an American company founded by Karen Feldman that uses traditional hand-made Czech glass production skills to succeed in the luxury retail market.
The Czech producer of light fittings and focal glass art installations LASVIT designed and produced the trophies exclusively for the overall winners of this year’s Tour de France, the most prestigious cycling race in the world, which were based on a design conceived by Lars Kemper (Germany) and Peter Olah (Slovakia) under the direction of Škoda Auto chief designer Jozef Kaban.
The skill and reputation behind Czech glassmaking have made the sight of Bohemian crystal an all too common sight on the streets of Prague. The Czech company Lasvit is looking to extend this traditional product’s reach considerably, having just gone to new heights with its work on the recently opened Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong.
