RWE Czech Republic announced on Wednesday that due to Germany’s resolution to phase out nuclear power, EU unbundling legislation, and challenging economic conditions, the energy giant would sell off more assets than previously planned — including subsidiary Net4Gas, which owns and operates the Czech gas pipeline network. An RWE Group spokesman, however, said the sale was only being considered.
Twenty billion cubic meters (BCM) of gas now delivered to the Czech Republic and Germany every year via Ukraine will soon be diverted to the North Stream pipeline. Speaking in Brussels on Wednesday, Gazprom boss Alexei Miller said the pumping of gas into the recently completed first branch of the Nord Stream will start in June; as of October, 27.5 BCM will be delivered via the submarine pipeline.
Gazprom boss Alexei Miller, head of E.ON Ruhrgas Klaus Schäfer, Total vice president Michael Borrell and 300 other representatives of the European and global oil and gas sector are to meet in Prague for the European Business Congress (EBC) on June 2 and 3.
