Historically, the Czech Village quarter was considered rather sordid

Proud native sons of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, include the Hollywood film stars Ashton Kutcher and Elijah Wood (not to mention “American Gothic” painter Grant Wood). But the city has another greater claim to fame. Over the course of the American town’s 160-year-long history, many, many thousands of Bohemian and Moravian immigrants settled there (ever thought how much like Kučera the surname Kutcher sounds?), and the city is now home to the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.
