Czechs to celebrate tax freedom on June 9 says think tank

The symbolic day when the average Czech stops working for the state and starts earning for himself should come on June 9 this years, five days ahead of last year’s calculation, according to the estimation from a free market think tank.

Czech inflation eases to 3.5 PCT in April

After hitting a high for the year so far in March of 3.8 percent, annual inflation fell back in April to 3.5 percent as the rate of price increases for food and non-alcoholic drinks slackened slightly.

Czech trade surplus at record high in March

Preliminary data shows the Czech Republic’s trade balance in March ended in a record high of Kč 37.5 billion, up Kč 14.5 billion year on year (y/y), the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) said Monday, but analysts see little reason to celebrate given the foreign trade dynamics.

Crazy prospect for Europe – clash of generations over work

Worn out pensioners with 50-year-old qualifications driving trucks or working on construction sites is a crazy prospect. Nevertheless, equally crazy is the prospect of those old folks’ peers retaining control of public administrations and thinking up ever new rules and nonsense which lead to stagnation and recession.

Czech business confidence slips back in April

Declining confidence among manufacturers and those in import-export outweighed slight rises in the construction, services sectors and among consumers with the composite confidence indicator falling for the first time since December.

Czech jobless rate slips to 8.9 pct in March

A bigger than expected cut in the Czech jobless rate occurred in March with just over 16,600 being wiped from the unemployment total and the overall rate slipping to 8.9 percent.

The prices of food and non-alcoholic drinks rose for the seventh month in a row, helping to push Czech consumer price inflation in March to 3.8 percent, its highest level so far this year.

Czech business confidence rises in March

Nearly all the boxes ticked positive in the March survey of Czech business confidence carried out for HSBC with the overall index rising for the second month in a row. The improvement has led to suggestions that the worst of the economic crisis could be over.

Confidence in Czech economy holds steady

Overall confidence in the Czech economy remained nearly unchanged in March, with the composite confidence indicator increasing by 0.1 percentage points month on month (m/m), the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) said Monday. “Among entrepreneurs confidence increased in construction, in trade and in selected services; in industry it remained unchanged,” it said, noting that consumers were less optimistic.
