Enormously popular for centuries in the land of his birth, Jakub Jan Rybaʼs iconic Czech Christmas Mass (Česká mše vánoční) had its Chicago premier this month, blending local church musicians and choristers with those of Czech, Slovak, and Moravian heritage. Though constructed as a proper Mass and based on the story of the birth of Jesus, it digs deep into Czech folklore.
