Jerome Rothenberg was a guest at this year’s Prague Writers’ Festival and the acclaimed American poet spoke to me about his experience translating German and Czech poets, giving Nezval a voice in English and not speaking Yiddish with Paul Celan.
The question “who heals the healer” may come up many times in numerous professions that focus on serving others and often tend to forget about themselves. In communication, this is even more visible when brilliant agencies deliver outstanding work for clients, but their own websites often refuse to work.
“As in the Soviet past, bright new futures were elusive. Which didn’t mean they wouldn’t come, only that some cost was involved. And in these infant days of Slav capitalism, anything good – bright future included – was extremely pricey. Free, gratis and for nothing was a concept of the past.”
